Overview of the organization

Alpine Canada Alpin (ACA) is the governing body for ski racing in Canada. Founded in 1920 and accounting for close to 200,000 supporting members, ACA represents coaches, officials, supporters and athletes, including the elite racers of the Canadian Alpine Ski Team and the Canadian Disabled Alpine Ski Team. Relentlessly pursuing excellence, ACA seeks to put Canadian athletes on the top step of the podium through the commitment of financial, technical and human resources. ACA is also dedicated to promoting participation within Canada’s four million recreational skiers.

Mission

To create for Canada, the best alpine ski racing athletes in the world. Male and female athletes who will consistently achieve internationally recognized podium results

To build a sustainable, world-class athlete development system, that ensures we offer training and competition opportunities in an environment that reflects the priorities of Canadian society.

As the National Governing Body for ski racing in Canada, to fulfill the mandate of leadership for excellence and sport participation through organizing, governing and regulating all levels of participation from the entry level to the Olympic Team.

To give athletes at all levels of competition the opportunity to experience our sport and to develop as good skiers, good citizens and advocates of amateur sport.

Funding Structure

Alpine Canada Alpin is primarily funded through corporate sponsorship, public and private donations, government grants and individual contributions. Alpine Canada Alpin has established a variety of programs that allow Canadians to share in the success of Canada’s alpine racers – from the grassroots to the elite level. These include the Club Podium, the Alpine Canada Alpin Foundation, as well as the organization’s broad partner and supplier programs.

Vision for 2010 and beyond

Alpine skiing is a sport leader in Canada.

To build momentum and maintain our stature as a leader with our partners as well as building a sustainable program of excellence following the 2010 Olympic/Paralympic Winter Games, Canadian ski racing will need to accomplish the following:

  1. First priority must always be to deliver the human, technical and financial resources for the athletes of the Canadian Alpine Ski Teams, for athletic leadership in World Cup, World Championship and Olympic/Paralympic competition.
  2. Success is built on the relentless pursuit of excellence. We must transform the Canadian ski racing system to incorporate this philosophy through coaching education, leadership and an enriched environment for athletes from the entry level to the Olympic and Paralympic Teams.
  3. 75% of Canadian results in alpine skiing at the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Games are ranked in the top 12, along with a significant number of medals.
  4. We must develop a sustainable athlete development system that ensures we will continue to deliver podium results in alpine ski racing beyond 2010

Our vision is to lead our sport and provide our athletes with the tools to achieve. Our goal is to be number one. Our planning is based on the goal to be the best in the world. Our mission is to fight relentlessly for every last hundredth of a second, to find an edge, to build the best program, to offer leading edge opportunities to all our athletes and to inspire a sense of purpose in all Canadians that we can and will be the best!
